Steps to Achieve the 50s Makeup
Step 1: Apply mattifying foundation
To make sure your skin looks even and flawless, apply foundation to your whole face.
Step 2: Conceal, conceal, conceal
Conceal under the eyes and in areas where you spot blemishes. Sirens of the silver screen had stunning skin, so we will take inspiration from their foundation and concealing skills.
Step 3: Go for setting powder
To mattify the skin, dust over setting powder gently.
Step 4: Prime the eyelids
To maximise your eyeshadow’s staying power, prime your eyelids first.
Step 5: Use an off-white colour all over the lid
For your first shade, apply an off-white colour all over the lid. This will really open up our eyes. This is every 50s makeup fan's favourite trick!
Step 6: Use a medium shade in the crease
Contour your crease with a medium beige or brown shade. Line the lower lash with the same hue.
Step 7: Press the original off-white shade into the lid
To intensify the off-white eye shadow colour, press it on to the lid again.
Step 8: Add a pink shimmer to your eyelid
To make your eyes really stand out, add a shimmer to the centre of your lid.
Step 9: Highlight the brow bone with the shimmer
Use the same shimmer hue to highlight the brow bone.
Step 10: Line your eyes with a black liner
Go for a liquid or gel liner to line your eyes with a gentle cat eye flick. When it comes to 50s makeup, this is a must!
Step 11: Apply mascara
Finish off your eye makeup with volumising mascara.
Step 12: Contour your cheekbones
Smile! Apply blusher to the apples for your cheeks.
Step 13: Shape and fill in your eyebrows
Using a gel eye brow mascara, powder or pencil, define your eyebrows. Don’t forget, if you are going for a truly vintage look, it’s all about underlining the arch!
Step 14: Highlight your eyes
Apply highlighter underneath the brow bone to add intensity and apply a white eye shadow into the inner corners of your eyes to make your eyes really pop.
Step 15: Go for red lipstick
Line your lips with a deep red lip pencil and fill it in with a beautiful red shade. Top tip: for extra precision, you can apply lipstick with a brush and finish with lip gloss.
