Steps to Getting a Sleek Bun On Black Natural Hair
Step 1: Moisturise Your Hair
Condition your hair using root strengthening spray. Make sure you add product as closely as possible to the roots by working in sections and massaging it in. Depending on the condition of your hair, you may want to spray the ends as well to make sure your hair is evenly moisturised.
Step 2: Comb Through Your Hair
Use a wide-toothed comb to brush your hair. Start at the ends and work your way through the lengths towards the roots.
Step 3: Section off Your Hair
Section your hair using your wide-toothed comb. Instead of a usual parting, go for a circle that divides the hair at the crown of your head. Don’t be tempted to skip this step – it will help you achieve a truly sleek look as we will be applying product in-between your tresses.
Step 4: Pull the Hair at the Crown into a Bun
Tie the middle hair into a high bun. Add edge control to the roots of your middle hair to ensure a smooth and flat look.
Step 5: Comb Through and Brush Up
Comb through the remainder of your hair to ensure every lock is tangle-free. Grab your brush and start brushing up and over to start positioning your hair into your sleek bun.
Step 6: Add Edge Control
Apply edge control around the edges and the insides of your hair to really smoothe and flatten your tresses at the roots.
Step 7: Brush the Product In
Brush in the product and run your hand over your hair to ensure the hair stays flat.
Step 8: Bring Everything Together
Now that your hair is in position, bring everything together including your previous bun. Tie the hair firmly with a band, looping the ends at the back. Depending on the thickness of your hair, you may want to use two or three elastics.
Step 9: Apply Hair Gel
To make sure your hair is extra smooth, apply hair gel upwards towards the bun. Don’t forget your locks at the back! Optional: If you want to bring down your baby hairs, just use a bristle brush.
Step 10: Lock in the Moisture with a Silk Scarf
If you have some extra time, put a silk scarf on for roughly 20 minutes to really lock in the moisture and make sure your sleek bun is in position. This step will make your awesome new hair style last longer.
